Acorn Award

HOLY CROSS WINS "GREEN" AWARD
Holy Cross was awarded The Green Acorn Award by the Oakdale City Council for "Lessening Their Impact on the Environment" for the lighting project competed in March. By replacing all the light fixtures in the church with new, energy efficient ones, the church has realized a substantial monthly savings already. Congratulations to Tom Nun, Joe Knuesel, and the Men's Club for planning and carrying out the fund raising drive and project. Thank you to all the members of Holy Cross for having the foresite to support the project!

School Supplies for Local Kids...Thank You!!!
And The Winner Is ….    WOW!  What a response!

Along with our partners, House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Transfiguration Catholic Church and international students from area high schools we were able to fill three of our big round tables in the Fellowship Hall and more with school supplies.  There were enough supplies donated to help 200 students plus enough supplies for the teachers to stock the cupboards in their classrooms. Following worship join us outside for ice cream treats to celebration.

Mission Trip to Tanzania

Our Mission Team arrived home safely on July 3rd from Iringa, Tanzania Participants are: Sarah Lipker, Diane Boonstra, Roxanne Choulock, and Pastor John, Sandy, Bethany and Nathan Stiles. If you’d like to read the updates and see pictures and video online, Pastor John set up a blog at http://bluejeremiah.wordpress.com They will be sharing their experiences in coming weeks. Below are some pictures from the team.

and is too small for them to meet now.

Social Ministry

Many of you are probably wondering: "What does the Holy Cross Social Ministry Team do?"

The official duties of the team are as follows:

This team shall recruit, motivate, equip, and support members of the congregation to assist Church members and the community at large in times of need. This team's responsibility includes but is not limited to coordinating the Church's effort to help the poor and hungry, whether through a local food shelf or on a worldwide basis through the ELCA World Hunger Appeal; overseeing the Church's role in such nonprofit, social organizations as the Community for Affordable Senior Housing and Habitat for Humanity; encouraging the congregation's financial contributions to assist those who have experienced tragedies or disasters; promoting blood drives; and any other social ministry which the team considers appropiate.

So what does all this really mean?

It means that the Social Ministry Team helps people! We try to carry out our Christian duty to help alleviate problems with hunger, housing, and other social issues that prevail in our world today. This includes helping people in our own community as well as people on the other side of the world.

Among the projects that we have done:

  • Provide and serve food for Loaves and Fishes (a soup kitchen) once every other month.
  • Collect food for the local food shelf
  • Organize the Christmas Giving Tree for local needy children
  • Distribute coinboxes to collect money for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal during Lent.
  • Collect hats, mittens, gloves, etc. for Oakdale Elementary.
  • Collect school supplies for Oakdale Elementary.
  • Organize a Habitat For Humanity work day.
  • And more!
